gleam 08-21-00 |
10.30.00 I hope this fixes the pal problems. New version
on the left, over there. I have been unable to test this, but I hope
this fixes the pal problem all of you pal-people are having. Note: other
than the pal fix, this version is identical to the previous in all other
aspects.
10.29.00 Ok, new release. Enjoy, you can all play super
mario brothers 1 now. :)
10.21.00 Oh, by the way, fixed super mario bros. 1
today. When that was fixed, excitebike as well as many others decided they
wanted to work too. I'll put out another release shortly :)
10.20.00 Anyone care to know that I got saving working,
finally? What a bitch, too! Ok, next is file *loading*, then all will
be well and we will have another version. Joy.
And.. moments after I fixed the code for saves, the loading code worked
flawlessly, cool. So, I have released another version, 10/20/2000. Download
is (should be) on the right :) .. Enjoy.
10.10.00 Yay. finally. Another release! The readme can
be found here. Download and try it
out! Thanks for all the support every one. And TONS and TONS of thanks goes
to Marcus Comstedt, author of DreamSNES.
10.05.00 Hopefully some news that will generate traffic :).. I've released
the source code to gleam's assembly cpu core, written in sh4 asm. My goal
is that people will download, correct, and send me patches. I will appreciate anything
that helps. I know there are smart and witty people out there, so help :)
This core is a LOT faster than my old C core, but there are a LOT more bugs, most of
which I don't have the time to stomp out. I know it's hard for you to work on the core
without the other part of gleam, but if you can do it, then I will appreciate your help. 9.27.00 Wow, its been a while since the last update..
Sorry, I havn't been working too much on it lately, but I have reasons:
Because of the PSX2 launch in October, my manager where I work has gone
to nashville for a company meeting, which basically has left 2 people
running our store, so I've been working a LOT... And considering school
started monday, and I finally fell for a girl this saturday, I've had really
no free time... I'm kinda working on it, I'm kinda not.. Sorry, but it
might actually be a while before I release anything :(
9.18.00 Butokukan was a blast :) -- I took a 1st place
and a no-place at the compitition (was in 2 divisions) -- It shows, I guess,
that practicing taiji for 1 month is not enough and kung fu for 7 is
plenty :) Anyways, It's time I get back to work on the core -- I've
found another job that I think will free up some time while making me a
little more side cash too, so hopefully that turns out good :) Bye for
now..
9.15.00 Butokukan tomorrow! -- Put up a new
compatability list, this time its not interactive. Go here.
9.13.00 Took down the compatability list because of all the abuse.
Sorry to the good people :| I had wished that I wouldn't have to
maintain it, but also wished that people would be able to make "use" of it correctly.
I guess I was wishing for too much :(
It's kinda upsetting that I spent my own time on developing a way for poeple
to add the games themselves. But fine, I guess that's the way it is.
-- Also, more progress on the CPU core, up to 41 opcodes now.
9.11.00 I put up a compatability list and engine so you
can add games for specific versions of gleam. I hope everyone will
participate to make this a thorough list. Please make sure the game is not
on the list before you add it, and please don't abuse it!
Oh, sorry about the move, but it had to be done sometime :) -- New Url:
http://gleam.devildog.org/ -- bookmark it.
9.11.00 Ok, more updates I guess -- I've done a lot to
the CPU core, including stack read/writes, as well as all of the implied
instructions (all 25! uhg -- can't wait until immediate/zp crap) -- If
this core isn't faster than what I had, I'm going to be seriously
disappointed :P
9.07.00 Sorry for the lack of updates :) -- Been kinda busy. Sorta.
Uhm, well let's see: I finally have a stable asm cpu core, now it's just to add opcodes & cycle counts, etc.
9.03.00 Yay. I turn 18 tomorrow (well, like 2 hours or so or smth). But what am I doing?
sitting HERE .. in front of the computer . (not that it's a HORRIBLE thing, but I would like to be out, maybe with a girl, y' know? :))
Anyways, just thought I would say hi -- no progress lately, havn't been doing much work (I'm gettin to it, trust me folks :)) Anyways, take care everyone.
Btw thanks goes to Jason Liebig of Marvel Comics, New York, for sending me those awesome
comic books :)
Btw, I was pretty excited at about 11:30 tonight.. Dragon Warrior 2 loaded right up :)
(yaya, it plays on DC).
9.01.00 Alright, work finally commenced on the asm core. Not much tho,
the main point of today was to make sure it could be done. And I think it can.
I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out.
Something just crossed my mind: wanna donate? You can do it for free
(without costing you any $$$): Here's the deal, paypal.com offers you 5$
to sign up an account with them. Sign up and transfer it this way :)
info.txt tells how to donate through paypal.com..
thanks! :)
8.31.00 Did you know dreamcasts dropped in price about 50 bux? :)
Oh, I've been working on speeding this thing up (sorry for the lack of updates),
I rewrote the PPU handler and I've gotten about a 40-50% speedup on the PC version. Maybe
20-25% on the DreamCast, which sucks. I started writing an asm core, but accidentlly
deleted it :( .. That's ok, It was hardly anything in the first place, so I might try
again. Just thought I'd let everyone know that the past few days have been my relaxing days.
Butokukan is coming up soon (Open style Martial Arts tournament), so I've been practicing a lot.
Once again, sorry about the lack of updates, and such. But I'm advancing, surely but slowly :)
8.28.00 Why does it have to come down to *this* ? Sorry kalisto, you get absolutely *NO* credit.
I didn't steal your work, you stole ours. Any one want proof? Check http://marcus.mangakai.org/dc/sw.html
on how to make bootable CD-Rs -- you'll see how Kalisto cheated. Oh, btw to everyone: self booting dreamcast games have been
possible from the very start. Actually, My Credit goes to Marcus Comstedt, which he has received lots of. Kalisto, you guys make me cry. You're pathetic.
What's even sad is that I have to make news posts like this, even though I shouldn't even "bother" defending myself. I stole nothing, Kalisto.
You stole. You stole from the dcdev people: the ones that work HARD to figure out the TRUE dreamcast programing. Not using *ANY* WinCE or Katana bullshit.
Nothing. Kalisto: grow up.
8.28.00 Alright, a release. Finally. Yes, this will play roms.
I got lots of emails saying to put up a gleam forum, so I did. The link
is on the right side of the page. Enjoy. I should be posting regularly,
too.
Oh ya, a guy was kind enough to send in his screen shot of how to burn
the ROM cd using nero.jpg. Thanks goes to John
Weber.
8.28.00 Maybe I'm the dumb one? Did I say that gleam
was not going to still be free? Did I not say that the money was for a
copy of it burned? Didn't I say that you could still download it for
free? Didn't I say that ... ? Didn't I? Or did I forgot too.. Oops, I must
have forgotten to: get it THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS. Gleam will be FREE.
It ALWAYS WILL BE. Like I said before, geez. You can pay for me to burn
it to CD, or you can download it yourself and burn it yourself. The
reason I am doing this is simple: so that people that WANT to support me
have a *REASON* to. damn it. It's not that hard to comprehend. Read this. I'm now to the point where I only respond
to emails if I can tell that soneone ACTUALLY READ THIS WEB SITE.
damn, I get 10000 hits a day, *SOMEONE* has got to read it? Right?
8.27.00 Ok, I'm fed up. Stop emailing me asking how to load roms
in the current version of gleam. Why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T! Geez. I thought I mentioned
that when I posted gleam. The version you download now is a DEMO, get it? A *DEMO*
it will run a NES game that would have run on the REAL system, and it will STOP
at the joystick test! You *absolutely* *cannot* do anything else with it. Now stop
emailing me with how to load roms. I do *not* want to go the route that UltraHLE
went. Now, the next version of gleam will be able to load roms, but I haven't release it
yet! Tough shit! I'll put it out when I want to. You know, I appreciate all the support
everyone has given me, but as an "official emulator author," I can now finally realize
what all the other authors talk about: lamers. Stop f**king emailing me with stupid-ass
questions! Got it? I think most of you would rather me work on gleam! than spend all my time
answering questions that I've *ALREADY* answered on this page. Shit, why won't you figure it out
yourself.
Also, as for the CD rom images that are posted, I have only tested one: the SH4 binari (.bin)
that is posted. The disc juggler/cdclone/nero versions that are posted are not tested by me,
they are sent in by other people, and I put them up. If they don't work, don't complain to me.
Listen, I'm developing this emulator on my own free time, I'm not getting paid for it (the banner has not
made me but 35 bucks, and I have yet to see a check), so I'm not gonna spend time answering email,
if you've been wondering why I havn't answered your email, it is because I havn't found it worthwhile.
Thanks for putting up with my rambling. Also, I plan on selling gleam CDs for about 5-10 bux a peice (and *NO* IT WILL NOT COME WITH ANY ROMS),
however, I need to know if enough people will buy one, so email me and I'll tally up the votes.
Thanks for listening to my rambling and much more thanks to the people who aren't "lame."
(You know who you are.)
Terms and Agreements for purchasing gleam! CDRs is here.
8.26.00 Ok, about time huh? I put up a disc juggler version for
you people. Hopefully this works better. Thanks go out to Bman. Oh, and
I think glue sniffin' ed wants to apologize for the nero version not working!
8.26.00 Oh kay, time for another update: let's see, I fixed
that stupid flicker, damn. Thanks go out to Marcus Comstedt and his awesome
dreamcast programming site.. Hmm, I also
fixed ANOTHER bug that had been discouraging me.. You know what it's like? To be
completely upset with something, then fix it, and be even MORE happy with it
than before the problem arose? Kinda like an argument with a girlfriend that has
just been resolved -- ALWAYS better in the end (right?) wait. what am I doing? comparing
programming to women? uh oh. great. i know i'm gonna be gettin a few emails from
ladies now. Wait, what was it? 8.25.00 Well, I went down stairs to make a .bin/.cue copy
of the demo, but I couldn't get it working. Turns out disc juggler wants a CDR
in the computer it's on (or something is up with the ASPI?) .. Well, sorry, but
I'll need one of *YOU* out there who have got it running to make me a .bin/.cue so that
other people can see the demo! Thanks!
8.25.00 Oh, one other thing -- don't click the ad more
than 4 times every 2 days, please! If they find out somebody has been
reloading on me, they'll terminate my account! And then guess what
happens to gleam!!! (j/k)
8.25.00 Wow. I should have waited for the last post, because
background scrolling now works. That is cool :) You should see the smile on my face.
Click on my banner.
8.25.00 Ok, time for an update. Let's see, sprite Y-flipping works
good. I've added support for mapper #3 (CNROM) and mapper #1 (MMC1); So I am able to sit
here and play metroid. joy. A lot of new games run, and I've also come across some more
bugs. DW1 runs but graphics are ugly, etc. I hope to put something out sometime soon,
but I want to fix this vsync problem. Hopefully the people on DC-dev mailing list will
be able to help. (Sorry no screen shots this time :( ) -- thanks everyone who's been visiting my
banner & please keep it up. If it goes good, I will be sharing the information (how much money
is gathered and what it is spent on, so that everyone knows it's going to development). Thanks.
8.24.00 I'm titling this post "True Supporters." If you
will, please click on the banner up above, 1 time on each of the 4 links,
you will make me 40 cents.. If i can get even 10% of the people that visit
this site to click, I can make some money, and that will go towards
development systems, etc. Please support me and click on one of the links at
least once! Thanks a ton! (Beware, lots of popups when you leave site!)
8.24.00 Looks like someone made a Nero image and didn't tell me!! :)
Anyways, I got a copy of it and it's now posted there on the left.
8.23.00 Hey, I put up 2 emails that generally says what I've been
getting in my mailbox. Still doing work, but nothing big right now (wait until 3 or 4 pst .. )
8.22.00 Posted 2 more screenshots from the tv tuner card, this one shows
the sorryass gui i have put in to load roms.
8.22.00 Alright! After about 10 minutes of sweat-dwelling hard work,
I got my first ROM to load off of a CD-ROM in the dreamcast! (Yes, pop in the emulator CD, take
it out and pop in the ROM cd, load a rom, boom) .. It's cool :) .. So from now on I don't have
to have the precompiled-into-the-source-code roms anymore.. Oh, ya, so all you folks out there
can start burning rom cds to use with this emulator, you will need to make sure it burns in a
MODE1/2352 track, or using the -xa1 option in cdrecord for you linux people. Thanks everyone for your support!
8.22.00 I put up a CloneCD version of yesterday's gleam binary.
Let's have a few people try it out and email me if it works or not. Thanks.
8.22.00 I've come a long way -- sprites are working now,
things are still slow, but that's ok, because a lot of the graphics glitches have
been worked out. The last of the major graphics to be implemented are background
scrolling and sprite vertical flipping. (Oh, and ya, I was playing megaman on my dreamcast) 8.21.00 Alright alright! Here's your demo (download it
over there <- on the left) -- now, it is VERY broken, but i'm releasing
this just to show everyone how far i've come. here are your options to
running it on the dreamcast: 1) burn it to cd, click here to read instructions
how to convert the .bin to 1ST_READ.BIN (NOTE: this gleam binary has NOT
been scrambled), or 2) you can convert the .bin to .srec and upload it via a
serial cable link. As far as the roms go, one is built into the binary
(sorry, I'm too lazy to implement a way to load any rom right now) -- it's a
freely distributable ROM (afaik).. Uhm, controllers have been implemented
and work -- you'll get the controller test screen at the VERY end of the
demo program. Thanks & Enjoy! 8.21.00 Yo, what's up? Ok, so I lied. The dreamcast version *ISN'T* fast at all.
In fact, it's kinda slow :( -- but that's ok, cause its still expiremental.. Development is going great,
I've been able to implement the first controller easily, now I just need to add 1 line to my code for the second
controller, then maybe I will see if I can fix anything up (say speed?)... thx everyone
8.19.00 Hm, so how is everybody? Alright, here is my plan: I've been taking a few days
break to relax and ponder why my code sucks :) .. Actually, my 6502 core is broken to hell, so I've taken
a break and want to be back on a roll by monday. I want to start rewriting the core in hitachi sh4 assembly,
but that's not a priority.. Actually my next priority are the controllers, I'll have controllers working monday
night (hopefully) and hopefully a program ready for download for everyone by tuesday (that's if everything goes well).
The deal is I can't do any testing so I don't know if it'll work for anyone (only reason: I don't have a CD burner), nor do I have
a Windows box to make a .bin/.cue for everyone :) So -- here's the deal, if you poeple are REALLY truely
wanting to support me, I will to my fullest, if anyone wants to send hardware (prefereably perhaps new mobo/cpu/harddrive/ram/nic card)
it would be easier for my development (I would have to build a doze box), -- and hey, I turn 18 on the 4th, so surprize me :).. 8.16.00 Ok, 2 more screens: this time, they're fullscreen, too. awesome
:) Uhm, enjoy while I get to bed, I've implemented more opcodes as well as mapper #2, so
I've seen some cool things. Oh, ya, and thanks for all the support everyone. 8.15.00 Posted 2 more screenshots, enjoy. I still have yet to figure out
why the DC code displays a little different than the PC version. Odd :) 8.15.00 Ok, coming along much further, testrom.nes runs, for the most
part (I need to finish implementing opcodes).. 8.12.00 "And yes, it's SLOW on the DreamCAST |
