It makes a nice change - It's usually us UNIX people who feel left out when people release stuff that requires proprietary Windows software (not just CD stuff like Nero and Disk Juggler, but also unrelated stuff like Quicktime, Nemeeting etc.).
Anyhoo, I'm sure cdrecord isn't doing anything Nero (et al) couldn't -- you just need to understand what the cdrecrd commands are doing, then tell Nero to do those same things.
