Hy dude! nice post!
: First, I'd like join in applauding Tubooboo's
: decision to ditch the proprietary WinCE libs.
: I think this will be a great boon for Ngine.
: Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if
: Sintendo hit some legal trouble some time
: in the future. With illegal ROMs being so easy
: to obtain in the emulation world, it's important
: that the emulator authors are seen to be
: squeaky-clean.
You are most certainly right about this. That
is also why Sin does not distribute the libs
with Sintendo. The approach, however is still
questionable, as Sin needs to use the kit himself,
and thats not legal, too. Hope no one will
care...
: Secondly, MAME.
hehe
: DGen is a lovely idea, but it strikes me
: you could buy a perfectly good Megadrive/Genesis
: second hand, and second hand games are very cheap.
: The games you could play on MAME are pretty much
: unobtainable elsewhere.
Well the genesis, and esp. all the old classics
from Japan are pretty much unobtainable as well.
And you cannot play games you dont own anyway ;).
But you have a point, I see both as very exciting.
: I suspect some of the newer games emulated
: by MAME would be troublesome on a DC - some
: of those NeoGeo games have a *huge* memory footprint
: because of the number of large sprites; but Pac Man,
: Invaders et al should work very easily,
: and it'll be interesting to see just how complex
: a game Ngine/MAME/DC could handle.
well, i am certain a MAME port is possible, but
i had a short look at the MAME src and its huge,
even more so than snes9x... and on top of this, it
is not nearly as nice to read as the SNES9x src.
So... i think it would work, but it would need
lots of work IYKWIM...
I *might* look at it, but i need to get more time
on my hands, and don't really have any lately
(working 12 hour days) .... =( Thats also why
progress was so sparse..
