ngine-snes9x

What it is:
It is a SNES9x port to Dreamcast. It allows you to play images of Super Nintendo ROMs that you own as a real cartridge on the Sega Dreamcast video game system.

How well it currently works:

  • its like a real SNES! except for...
  • 50-85% of full SNES speed only (depends on game)
  • no sound yet

    How to use it:
There are a few things you will need in order to run this program:

    • A PC (Win9x for the Discjuggler version) with a CD Burner
    • Padus Discjuggler 2.x or 3.x (free, fully working demo here)
    • two CD-Rs , one for ngine, and one for the ROMs
If you meet the above requirements, follow this easy setup step by step:

    Burning the main program

    1. Download the latest ngine version here.
    2. Unpack your download to somwhere using some kind of ZIP extractor.
    3. Open Discjuggler. Open a new project of type "Image to CD Recorder".
    4. In the upper left corner you will see a box where you need to enter the full path to the ngine .cdi file you downloaded. (example: c:\temp\ngine.cdi )
    5. Insert a blank CD into your recorder, wait a few seconds, and press the START button in Discjuggler.

You should now have a working, self-booting CD with the ngine program on it. Try putting it into your DC... if you don't get a black screen with some text on it, something went wrong, and you are better off looking on the Message Board for some help.

    Burning the ROMs CD

    1. Fire up your favourite CD burning application.
    2. Burn the SNES ROMs you own as original onto a MODE1 CD. Careful: Very long filenames currently might confuse ngine, and ngine will not work with filenames that have spaces in them. I use the old-fashioned 8.3 convention, and it works fine here. (example: MARIO.SMC)

Thats all you need, now refer to the README file that cam with your release for usage instructions.
