Team Xodus Update Posted on Friday, November 19 2004
Christmas Surprises? You bet! We would not be Team Xodus if we did not have anything up our sleeves. To be honest we have really been encouraged at the very positive response and many compliments we have been receiving of late from happy customers, installers and developers alike. We are rated the number one chip out there with the number one Operating System for many good reasons, including unparalleled features, stability, reliability, build quality, ease of use and installation, to name but a few! It seems that the policy of doing things properly, taking our time and ensuring quality is key has really paid off. Having been around for almost a year and proving time and again that we are, and will continue to be, second to none really does count in this industry. We are extremely proud of our own Xenium OS and the fact that it is passing test after test with flying colors such as the recent issues with 1.6b compatibility which were no problem at all for the Xenium OS and of course the ever reliable (unless you are a cloner) ACT. Our OS is not only very stable and relatively bug free but, as promised, allows us the flexibility and opportunity for greater development and the addition of new and unique features. So, in short, the accolades and praise our Xenium OS is receiving is not mentioned here to gloat or boast but to let you know that we are grateful for the commentary and are encouraged to develop and innovate at a greater pace. With such a strong platform from which to launch we are certain to reach heights never thought possible before!!
In the Hardware department, there is the obvious co-operation with Xtender to look forward to as well as many eye opening developments one of which will be guaranteed to cure you of that serious case of arachnophobia :)

New Xbox Live sign-up promotion offers free games for referrals ! Posted on Thursday, November 18 2004
Microsoft has announced details of its latest promotion for the Xbox Live online gaming service, with the firm offering a free Xbox game to existing members who persuade a friend to sign up.
The promotion runs from now until the end of January, and is open to Xbox Live members in European countries who get their friends to sign up a paid subscription to the service.
Xbox Live has been receiving its toughest workout yet in the past week, thanks to the launch of the Live-enabled Halo 2, while football fans are keenly awaiting the arrival of Pro Evolution Soccer 4 on the platform next week.
However, the list of games on offer in the promotion doesn't include Halo 2 - instead, gamers can choose from recent titles including Fable and Sudeki, or older games such as Ninja Gaiden, Rallisport Challenge 2, Project Gotham Racing 2, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Counter-Strike, Midtown Madness 3, or Links 2004.
The Xbox Live service now has well over a million players worldwide, and has formed a core part of Microsoft's promotion for the Xbox console since it launched around a year after the arrival of the platform itself.

Halo 2 US sales top $125 million; UK retail celebrates successful launch Posted on Thursday, November 11 2004
Microsoft corporate VP Peter Moore appears to have underestimated the first-day sales of Halo 2 in North America, which are reported today to have topped $125 million, while retailers in the UK are celebrating a hugely successful midnight launch for the title.
"I''m calling a $100 million day on Halo today," Moore told an investor's conference earlier this week - but new estimates from Microsoft suggest that 2.38 million units have been sold through in North America on the launch day, totalling over $125 million in sales.
That makes Halo 2 into easily the fastest-selling media product ever in the United States, another major victory for the videogames industry which builds on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' recent trouncing of UK videogame and box office records alike.
The launch of Halo 2 in the UK, meanwhile, has proved a huge success - with many stores opening at midnight last night to meet demand from gamers for the hugely anticipated Xbox exclusive title.
"It's been a great night," enthused Alex Croft, buying director for leading UK retail chain GAME. "We opened 120 GAME stores at midnight, and they were full of fans queuing to buy Halo 2. We've been in this industry a long time - and know how important it is to customers that they can buy blockbuster titles like Halo 2 or San Andreas the second they're released."
"When you see thousands of people outside your stores in the middle of the night, you realise what a massive audience our industry now has," he continued. "It's excellent to see so many people getting so excited about new games."
Microsoft planning three versions of Xbox 2, claim reports Posted on Thursday, November 11 2004
The next-generation Xbox console may come in three different versions, according to a report today which claims that the firm plans to launch versions with and without a hard drive in 2005, and a fully functional PC / Xbox 2 combination in 2006.
Technology website The Inquirer reports that an NDA'd presentation given by Microsoft to analysts and market researchers in the UK pointed to the existence of three hardware versions, with two of them launching next autumn.
Xbox Next and Xbox Next HD would largely be functionally identical, but the latter of the pair features a hard drive and offers increased functionality as a result - which could be anything from Xbox backward compatibility (which the basic model could not offer due to the lack of a hard drive) to media jukebox functions or TIVO-style video recording.
In itself, that's not an entirely unlikely scenario, and indeed, Sony is expected to offer two different models of PlayStation 3 as well - one a basic "games only" device, and another with a hard drive and extended media centre functionality.
Indeed, Microsoft has already told developers not to rely on the presence of a hard drive for their games, but has curiously failed to rule out the possibility that a drive could be present. Theories for this range from an internal debate at Microsoft about the cost to benefit ratio of the hard drive, through to the remote possibility of the hard drive being sold as an optional extra - on balance, the idea of two versions of Xbox 2, with and without hard drive, seems eminently more reasonable.
The third version of the Xbox being touted by today's reports, however, is a rather more unexpected beast - titled Xbox Next PC, it combines the Xbox 2 with an entry-level PC which would run a media-focused verison of Windows, run standard PC software and games, and include a CD burner, wireless keyboard and mouse.
This system would not launch until Autumn 2006, and aside from the question about whether it really exists at all or not (a similar system which integrated PC functionality into the Xbox was widely reported on about three years ago, but never saw the light of day and may have simply been an elaborate hoax), there's also a major question mark over how such a system would work - since the Xbox 2 is based on PowerPC G5 processors, which won't run the Windows operating system, let alone PC games.
It's possible that a version of Microsoft's VirtualPC software, which allows Apple Macintosh users to run Windows operating systems under emulation on their PowerPC based systems, could be used to provide at least basic functionality - or PC hardware could be built into the console alongside the existing Xbox hardware, driving costs up but providing much better performance and reliability.
Either way, the possibility of multiple versions of Xbox Next will certainly make Bill Gates' keynote speech at CES in early January, where he's expected to publicly unveil the console, even more interesting.
Retro Flash Carts & Review Posted on Wednesday, November 10 2004
Most scenes start off with emulation then move onto homebrew, well today GBAX.com have posted news of Flash (Development) Carts for Retro systems like SNES, Megadrive, Genesis, 32x, Sega Master System/Game Gear & PC Engine have been released.
Also they have posted a review of the Classic Flash Carts, heres a small excerpt:
This is somthing which could not have came sooner for all us retro fans! Flash carts for the Megadrive/Genesis/SNES/Master system & PC-Engine. I'm going to review the Megadrive one, but they are all essentially the same.
The Megadrive carts come in 2 flavours 32M and 64M, the latter also supporting the doomed 32X addon. The SNES one comes in just the 64M size, the Sega Master system & PC engine come as 32M.
If you're like me and collect the old games you will probably not like using them incase of damage - I just don't like having the original carts out their boxes at all. So no more worrying about damaging your collected games when playing them, just back them up to this cart instead and begin playing!
Firstly MD, SNES, SMS and PCE games are small - so 64M in these terms is massive, you can fit about 10 Roms on at once, only the very last MD & SNES games from the late 1990's began to creep up in size, I found one which was 24M but thankfully most are 1M to 8M. So I hurredly recreated my old Megadrive collection and slammed it into the cart slot and fired the old girl up! Greeted by a nice menu screen I went from game to game on the big screen TV like I was 10 years old again, these games really come to life on the original system! I then sat for a totally geekish 4 hours playing every game I remembered for 5 mins at a time before I remembered another I wanted to play again!
Read the rest of the review and drool over those carts Here
Microsoft Banning Modded Xboxen Posted on Wednesday, November 10 2004
Since the release of Halo 2 (ed: and just before), Microsoft has been banning modified Xboxes from Xbox Live. Some have even been banned with their mod-chips turned off. Previously many users had been able to use Xbox Live provided they disabled their mod-chip. There are a few theories floating around as to how MS is doing this: from scanning the hard-drive for non-MS material to being able to check if the DVD-drive/Hard-disk serial number is from stock or not
Smart Frag The Ultimate Weopen Posted on Wednesday, November 10 2004
For unreconstructed PC FPS fans console shooters always present particular problems. Admirable though the DualShock and Controller S are, they can never quite offer quite the same speed and precision that PC gamers enjoy, reared (some would say spoiled) as we have been on a diet of WASD keyboards, ultra fast Razor mice and specialist speedy mousemats. What's a PC guy to do then faced with the awesome prospect of some Halo 2 multiplayer? Forsake everything we know and give in to the heresy of a controller pad? No, you underestimate us, for thanks to the handy SmartJoy FRAG you can jack a keyboard and mouse directly into your Xbox and play Bungie's masterpiece in not quite the way its makers intended.
And it's not just Halo 2 that benefits from the FRAG - the piece of kit comes in PS2 and Xbox flavours and comes pre-loaded with control presets for 8 games on each system.
Practically, the FRAG is easy enough to get started. You just plug into the front of your console, attach a mouse and keyboard and away you go. Well... not quite. Although the SmartJoy FRAG has a number of decent default settings, it doesn't for the moment come with a Halo 2 default setup.
Another problem is that console FPSs are designed around joysticks, and thus are designed to react to steady pressure rather than quick jerks - imagine the process of turning 180 degrees with an analogue stick in Halo 2 compared to the instant swivel you can produce with a mouse. The SmartJoy FRAG's on top of it, though. With a little patience and the odd expletive you can custom-map keys, tickle Deadzones into check, and massage sensitivity settings to perfection. Suffice to say, after a little ongoing tweaking, teasing and experimentation, you'll soon be ready - or at least ready enough - to rumble.
And once you're actually in a multiplayer Halo 2 session, it really does give you that old familiar FPS PC feeling. We're not saying it's going to instantly make you into a Halo 2 god and rule every console cowboy out there, but with the SmartJoy FRAG enabled console players will be able to enjoy mouse-like levels of aiming accuracy and PC players will feel a whole lot more comfortable in Bungie's new multiplayer universe.
Halo 2 to sell 100Million$ worth in One day Posted on Wednesday, November 10 2004
Bungie's killer Xbox sequel Halo 2 finally hit retail in the US yesterday, and Microsoft was quick to jump in with the announcement that it expects - well, maybe that should be 'expected' - that the hotly anticipated game would hit $100 million in its first day on sale. According to a report on Reuters, Microsoft corporate vice president in Microsoft's games division Peter Moore said in the Harris Nesbitt investment conference held in New York yesterday that: "I'm calling a $100 million day on 'Halo'".
Moore said he expected that $78 million of the $100 million mark would be generated through pre-sales - around 1.5 million units of Halo 2 were pre-ordered before day of release. Considering also that copies were flying off shelves within hours of the game going on sale in the US, his prediction is likely to prove accurate - give or take a few thousand dollars here and there, no doubt.
And Moore's wasn't the only Microsoft voice to reverberate around the globe on Halo 2's launch day yesterday. Bill Gates reportedly commented that :"In the first 24 hours we'll have an opening that's [more] popular than any motion picture has ever had in history."
Jeff Griffiths, EB Games CEO, who along with Peter Moore was also presenting at the Harris Nesbitt investment conference, spoke of the impact of the sequel on the retail company: "We think that this will be the biggest launch in the history of EB, perhaps the biggest launch in the history of video games," he said.
Meanwhile, industry analysts predict that sales of Halo 2 will eventually reach around 10 million units, estimating that around half that amount will be sold in the first month of release.

Halo 2 could give Xbox a profitable quarter Posted on Monday, November 8 2004
This week's launch of Halo 2 is not only Microsoft's most important game launch of the year - it could also drive sufficient software sales to give the firm's Home and Entertainment division its first profitable quarter since the arrival of the Xbox.
The arrival of Bungie's sequel to the best-selling title on the platform marks a key point in Microsoft's efforts to wrest market share from rival Sony, and will be vital to building up the company's credibility as a console manufacturer ahead of the arrival of its next-generation platform next year.
In the more immediate term, though, Halo 2 could potentially sell sufficient units to put Microsoft's Home and Entertainment Division, which houses the Xbox project, in the black for the December quarter according to comments attributed to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter in a Mercury News feature.
The division has lost several billion dollars on the Xbox project to date, making Microsoft's struggle to gain a foothold in the games industry into an extremely expensive venture, and in the most recent quarter showed losses of $273 million.
However, Halo 2 could easily sell around five million units according to Pachter's estimates, generating around $200 million in sales for the division, while if half of the Xbox installed base buys the title, sales could reach $400 million. Almost 1.5 million units have already been pre-ordered in North America alone, according to some estimates.
Combined with the falling cost of manufacturing the Xbox hardware, this could be enough to drive the division into profit for the quarter - although perversely, stronger Xbox hardware sales make profitability harder to reach, since the company is still believed to be making a significant loss on each hardware unit sold.
If Microsoft can manage to give the Home and Entertainment division at least one quarter in the black, it will be a major coup for the company - which has been criticised by some commentators for gaining only a 15 per cent market share of the games industry while continuing to make significant losses on the Xbox every quarter.

Xbox v1.6B News Posted on Friday, November 5 2004
It seems there is some fool spreading rumours that we are telling lies about v1.6B to cover up issues with alleged faulty Xecuter chips. Well done to the nameless moron who continues her crusade in slandering Xecuter's efforts. Here is some follow up discoveries since we asked for input for the general public. We have confirmed feedback from a number of people using v1.6B - using X2.6, X3, Xenium, Smartxx, Aladdin and DUOX2 so far. I am sure Xodus and the other makers will confirm this too in the next day or so. All chips had EvoX_M8 v16 flashed (X3 was tested with X3 bios and Evox M8 16) All same results of locking up and freezing at flubber or freezing in games. All mods work perfect when flashed with MS 5838 Bios (Originals of course) demonstrating that the mod hardware is fine.
So far we have found the "v1.6B" to be very random indeed - results in 3 areas. 1. Xbox Freezes during flubber sequence. 2. Xbox boots fine but freezes during games. 3. Absolutley no problems whatsoever.
We have 6 of these boxes so far in our hands that are confirmed crashing at flubber (6 faulty out of a batch of 20 with the same date - the 14 were perfectly fine as normal). All dates range between 13-09 and 17-09. The strange anomoly is in the process of being investigated.
Thats from Team Executer
Team Xecuter About ModChip Clones Posted on Friday, November 5 2004
A little off topic but we feel we should comment on the recent news of fake Xeniums once again surfacing. We know how much hard work goes into designing something as advanced as a 4th Gen Xbox modchip and for someone to produce a cheap copy of it in order to make a fast buck is not only bad for the scene in general but bad for future development as it hits the relevant teams profits hard - profits which are ploughed back into development of mod hardware and also into new and exciting products for their customers. If people think development costs are low, how about this for an example. To design the X3 Control Panel - the plastic moulds alone that we had to create have so far taken an investment of $35,000. Its not even on the shelves yet and not even final - this doesnt include the custom made LCD and other parts involved - do the math guys.
Fakes or Clones are known to be of poor quality and many customers end up being duped into thinking they bought a genuine product. When this product does not work or breaks down due to protections (such as ACT) then the customer is left high and dry and general opinion is soured by none working chips and frustrated users who expected a high quality mod for their money. What's also shocking is that the clones are not only poor quality, an incomplete package and has the danger of breaking down with future Bios updates - but the sellers are giving a discount to wholesalers just a couple of dollars !
You may think its strange for Xecuter to comment on this as Xodus are one of our competitors, but this is an issue for the scene in general. Fakes and clones are damaging to all mod teams, all members of the scene and all customers who buy our creations in good faith. We ask all Xecuter customers and Xecuter software users to boycott anyone that offers these poorly manufactured chips for sale. Remember when you buy a genuine product you are assured of its high quality, that it comes as the full package intended by the designers and you also buy the peace of mind that it will work and you will be offered full technical and customer support. We offer Xodus our support in this matter - let's stamp out this disease to the Xbox Scene once and for all.

FBAxxx 02/11 ! Posted on Tuesday, November 2 2004
fbaxxx is a port of FBA which supports MC68000/Z80, neogeo, cps2 and cps1 based arcade games, heres whats new in this release:
* As I don't have manto's optimizations, I forced fm interpolation in neogeo mode or when no menus are used to avoid balck screen. * I fixed the problem with the rom counter. * I removed dat creation on first boot, it was freezing, I verified 3 times and didn t found the problem (probably fix later). * I added new drivers + ss5snd.zip aka Samurai Showdown V special * The only new thing, I removed all CRC warning when booting a rom in no crc mode. * I re-added sound when fast forwarding. * Sources up to date, sound must be perfect now * nFMinterpolation resetted to 0 if it was set to none after playing neogeo game * Fixed dat generation * Fixed roms properties displaying 4 times when booting a game (if you still have problem, delete fbaxxx.ini or change the three last szapprompaths) * normally fixed this damn clock bug (freeze when launching a neogeo game) * fixed loadstate not working anymore * fixed unibios not being saved (it works at least with unibios 2.0) * now available with ips patch, so the xbe is clean by default, no more problems with this license thing (thx to Prican)

HCl has released an updated version of Xbox Open Transport Tycoon which is a port to the Xbox of Open Transport Tycoon, an open source clone of the game Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
Heres whats New: * fixed/added screen stretch and position, configurable by editing the values in xottd.cfg (first two numbers are top left x, y, second two numbers are the bottom right adjustments which actually should be in the minus (works oddly.)) Todo: * better joystick -] mouse routine * fix the local lan games to use the xbox system link interface so it'll work over kai and xbc (networking already works as long as you know a server ip)

PS3 and XBox 2 Processors to be Exactly the Same ! Posted on Monday, November 1 2004
IBM (the manufacturers of some of the parts for the PS3 and Xbox 2) told Alex Albrecht that the processors they are putting in the new PS3 and Xbox2 are going to be the same processor, with the parts around it arranged slightly differently. Alex pried this information out of an IBM employee, likely while interviewing him for the show on which Alex is a cohost, The Screen Savers. Alex equivocates by saying "Now again, this is a rumor... so no Slashdotting". Too late for that, but keep in mind this is just hearsay at this point.
