About the X-Factor Development

0. So, what is X-Factor Development?
Briefly, X-Factor Development is a number of hobbiests who work on developing fun and useful homebrew applicatons and games.  X-Factor Development has been around for just over a year now, and has continued to grow gradually....giving more help and gaining support all the time.  We try to make our projects open source where we can, and create numberous tutorials and informatin on the site to help others learn and progress with xbox development.

All content on this website is copyright to XFactor Development.

1. Who is in the team?
The team is composed of newbies to pro's from a variety of walks around the world all sharing information and helping each other. Again our aim is to develop simple code tutorials, understanding, and software for the xbox. We are always looking for new members and help an any areas - from 3D Models to C++/C, Assembly, php etc.

2. Why is there no advertisement, how do you manage to pay for hosting? Will the code/tutorials stay free?
Yes, our information is free.  The team out of the goodness of there heart pay for the hoasting, so there is no need for advertisement. I'll still add a little Donation link soon, in case anyone wants to support the project or help the host to pay his internet connection bills, it would be greatly appreciated.

3. What language does the X-Factor Development Team use to write its code?
X-Factor Doesn't just use one programming language or stick with a fixed set of rules....a number of the team members are fluent in C, Assembly, C++ etc, and for the various projects use either Assemblers, Visual Studio, OpenXDK etc.  Most of the tutorials are writting in simple C to put accross simpel understandings  of how certain concepts work, for example rendering shapes, gamepad etc. ( for those who are still not sure, no, the xbox code wont' run under windows ).

4. Why should I bother?
Well I don't know how many people are out there who enjoy programming....but as for myself and a number of the team members, we do this because we enjoy it.  It allows us to share our knowledge and create games and applications for the xbox.  If you've always wanted to program consoles and would like to learn where always willing to help...

5. Fine, where's the source code?
HERE
I try to keep that web-site almost up-to-date, updating each week or so. I want to warn any potential source reader : X-Factor Source Code  is still in beta, the tutorials and demo's are hightly commented but still errors sometimes slip in, and would appreciate any feedack.   Good luck :)

6. How do I start?
Sure, you've got the source code examples on the web site etc...but you need one other thing.  Your xbox needs a mod-chip, so that you can run your xbe's on your xbox.  Instructions and documentation will be written once the site gets updated more.

7. What are the requirements for programming my xbox?
<1> Mod-Chip

<2> OpenXDK or Microsfot XDK

<3> It is prefaired if you have evox on cdrw, so that you can ftp your code across and run it from you xbox hard drive in a sub folder....but again you could burn it to cd each time your run it, but it would be very time consuming.

3. I posted a great idea in the forum, and you are not responding!
Most of the time, answers are posted on the forum you just have to be patient.  Look if there is an older thread on the same topic or the to-do list above.

Problems encountered

0. Resources are not up-up-date, time does not change, fleets don't get sent, etc.... help!
This is not really a problem related to X-Factor Development, but to the browser you are using. It occurs only with Internet Explorer ( or the AOL thing ), the program decides to stop requesting up-to-date pages from the server and display previously cached ones instead. A known solution, I heard, is to delete the cache files. Another solution would be to upgrade your browser to Mozilla, Opera or Netscape. It could also be caused by a bad proxy, ignoring http headers and caching files.

Other

0. Why are you counting everything from zero? Even the FAQ questions!
Computers count from zero, so do I. You better get used to it :).
